The Design Council in London is looking for a Design Development Manager to take care of their Design Support Programmes.

About The Design Council

The Design Council is the UK Government’s advisor on design and sets the benchmark for promoting design nationwide. Their mission is to champion great design that can create better places to live, bring communities together, encourage healthier living and transform business and public services.

About the position
As an independent design specialist, the Design Council applies its expertise across a range of settings and sectors. In particular, our Design Support Programmes offer businesses, the public sector and university scientists bespoke packages of design support and coaching to enable them to innovate, flourish and grow. We are looking for an experienced design manager who can translate their passion for design into programmes of support to inspire and enhance the work of many different kinds of organisation. 
The Design Development Manager makes a vital contribution to the content development and management and quality assurance of the products and services which make up the Design Support Programmes. In addition, the role will work more widely across the whole of the Design Council’s portfolio to inform and shape new products and services for emerging markets. 
The role has a number of key responsibilities:  
Ensuring that the content and delivery of our current Design Support Programmes is maintained and enhanced.

Adapting existing and new products and services to meet our customer base, both within Design Support Programmes and across the Design Council as a whole.

Keeping abreast of leading design methods and capturing current knowledge to share learning across the Design Council and its customers.

Service Design

Oversee the day to day management of the methodologies and tools underpinning our existing programmes;

Ensure that programme materials and content is up-to-date and adapted as appropriate to varying customer groups

Manage and enhance the process by which the Design Council develops existing offers, ensuring we adhere to current good practice across the business, working closely with the Chief Design Officer
Shape, test and optimise improvements to existing products and services to ensure they are suitable for new markets and also scalable

Drive efficiency and high quality delivery standards for existing or adapted products and services
Ensure products and services can be repeated, scaled, and tracked to assess impact on clients and our business

Associate Practice

Oversee the day to day management and performance of the Design Council’s Associate practice, ensuring individuals adhere to a clear Code of Practice and represent the Design Council and its values 
v Maintain the network of Design Associates  (40 independent design professionals who deliver our services locally and nationally across the country) supporting them to deliver the Design Council’s offers.

Manage the recruitment and induction of Design Associates, ensuring their skills and knowledge of the service content supports the highest quality of design interventions

Lead on the quality and performance management standards of the Associate network, managing risks as necessary

Service Development

Support the development of new products and services, working with the Director of Future Programmes and Business Development teamIdentify opportunities to incorporate high-quality design thinking in liaison with internal and external stakeholders 

Develop business cases for new and/or improved product/service development including accurate cost, timing and implementation estimates  

Corporate Responsibilities

Ensure you comply with the Design Council operational policies and procedures including financial and risk management, project management and evaluation processes, brand guidelines and internal health and safety policy.
