Skills Academy 2015 by Hermès (Fondation d’entreprise) - Applications now open!
Hermès "Fondation d’entreprise" (Hermès Enterprise Foundation) has just opened the application for the second edition of their Skills Academy, an initiative that every two years brings together artisans, designers and engineers and engage them in a series of activities exploring new innovative directions in craftsmanship.
The title of this year's Academy is "Terre!" (which in French means ground, soil) and the focus will be on exploring new approaches to clay and clay-related materials and technology. One of the most ancient and versatile materials, clay has always found application in many different sectors, from ceramics to construction, pottery and sculpture and has remained central to our life and environment across the centuries.
20 professionals from various fields and disciplines will be selected and invited to apply their skills and know-how to this area of research over a period of nine months, under the supervision of the Academy's director and with the support of "guest designer" Guillaume Bardet. Bardet has collaborated with top design brands including Ligne Roset, Cinna, Aquamass, De Vecchi and Livi’t.
The Academy, which starts in January 2015 and goes on until the summer, includes lectures, masterclasses, talks and workshops (including a seven-day summer workshop) in Paris and the surrounding area as well as in other venues throughout France. Ten artisans/craftsmen, five designers and five engineers of all ages, seeking to expand their skills and training experience, will be selected. Participants from France as well as from neighbouring countries are welcome.
You can submit your application until the 6th of July by sending the following material via post:
- A covering letter (maximum 2 pages)
- A Curriculum Vitæ
- A short filmed presentation explaining your expectations as a Skills Academy participant, why you're interested in participating and why you have an interest in this year's topic, what clay skills and techniques you have mastered (optional-maximum length 5 minutes)
- A portfolio of work (optional)
Please note that only hard copies (paper or CD-ROM) will be accepted.
Applications should be posted to the following address:
Fondation d’entreprise Hermès Académie des savoir-faire
24, Faubourg Saint-Honoré 75008 Paris France
In October 2014, 40 candidates will be shortlisted by a jury of experts and invited for an interview (30-45 minutes per candidate), with a panel of professionals headed by Bardet. In November 2014, the names of the 20 selected participants will be announced.
This is an outstanding opportunity for you to embark on new challenges in a cross-disciplinary context through research, training and hands-on projects; don't miss it!
