WAME & EXPO 2015 is an association founded by eight leading European energy companies and the organizers of Expo 2015 (Milan, Italy, 1st May-31st October 2015), whose focus is on nutrition. The main theme of the event is "Feeding the Planet. Energy for Life".

WAME recognises that a wider access to modern energy could facilitate access to water and food and help reducing extreme poverty. To promote this message and increase public awareness on inequality in access to energy, in accordance with the UN “Sustainable Energy for All” Initiative, WAME launches a Call for Case Studies to select and present to the public a limited number of implemented projects of high interest and significance which tackle the challenge of extending world access to energy.

Two case studies on “Energy access”and one on “Energy access and nutrition” will be shortlisted. Each of the three winning case studies will receive a prize of 5,000 Euros (before tax). High visibility at Expo Milano 2015, including participation in a public multimedia exhibition, will be ensured as well as a presentation on the WAME web platform. The exhibition will be held between the 1st of May and the 31st of October 2015. Up to two representatives of each of the winning case studies will be invited to Milan for the award event, and the costs of their travel and accommodation will be also covered.

 Furthermore, a special “Energy4Women” award, offered by GDF SUEZ, will be assigned to an additional case study that stands out for its contribution to empowering women in developing countries, where lack of access to energy affects women’s health and restricts their social and economic opportunities.

Applicant may decide to submit one or more case studies. The case study must be submitted by the project leader or by a participant (donor, implementing actor, project partner) by the 16th of January 2015 through an online form.

 Case studies will be evaluated by the WAME Selection Committee, composed by independent experts. The members of the Selection Committee will be published on www.wame2015.org on the 16th of January 2015, deadline for applications. WAME will select the winning case studies by March 16th, 2015.

A case study should be based on a single project or a group of projects which highlight some interesting aspects of the issue and/or approaches to a solution. The objective is to provide a practical example of innovative interventions.

Applicants from the following organizations will be considered:

  • Governments (including bilateral aid agencies), local authorities/bodies, public agencies and their associations;
  • Inter-governmental organisations and international agencies;
  • Civil society organisations or networks (NGOs, associations, public or private foundations);
  • Business community (SMEs, large enterprises, micro/social enterprises and their associations);
